Rain can linger above hardpan in much of western Washington, while drier ground east of the Cascades calls for a different planting plan. Top Soil belongs in the portion of the project reserved for growth, not in a drainage trench or beneath a gravel pad. Its screened texture makes it suitable for lawn establishment, garden planting, and flower beds.
Start with runoff paths and any needed drainage work where water stands over dense native ground. Near Puget Sound, on the Olympic Peninsula, and elsewhere west of the Cascades, avoid using a finish soil layer as a remedy for water held below it. Once the underlying work and intended landscape contour are complete, apply Top Soil across the area and grade the surface for planting. The material can also help level uneven lawn ground where the grade itself has already been addressed.

Common Uses
Lawn Establishment & Repair
Prepare turf areas with topsoil before installing sod, reseeding sparse grass, or correcting sunken sections of a yard. Place a 2-4 inch depth to create rooting space for grass to become established and fill in densely.
Garden Beds & Raised Planters
Use topsoil in raised planters and garden plots for vegetables, flowering plants, and herbs. The screened material is workable and gives developing roots a consistent medium.
Grading & Leveling
Bring irregular ground into shape, build up dips, and form drainage slopes near foundations and structures. Topsoil can be lightly compacted yet still lets moisture move down through the surface.
Tree & Shrub Planting
For new trees and shrubs, mix topsoil with the native ground. This helps improve soil texture and gives plant roots support as they establish in the early stages of growth.
Why Choose Top Soil
Quality Growing Medium
Use topsoil as the planting layer for turf, garden spaces, and decorative plantings. A well-arranged soil structure supports root growth while new plants take hold.
Screened & Clean
Screening takes out rocks, roots, and other debris, leaving a consistent material that can be spread and worked more easily.
Versatile Application
Topsoil suits home gardens, larger project areas, lawns, planting beds, and grading work. Select the depth and preparation method for the plants and site conditions involved.
Bulk Coverage
Compared with bagged material, bulk topsoil delivery can reduce the cost of covering broad areas. It lets you order material for large spaces and have it brought to your property.
