West of the Cascades, water can sit on glacial hardpan beneath shallow topsoil. Mason Sand is for the finer work above that ground, with a soft, uniform texture for masonry mortar, stucco applications, and grout. Its washed finish is also a good fit for sand boxes and volleyball courts where a less gritty surface is preferred.
Address drainage and a stable paver base before using Mason Sand near a patio or walk. That sequence is especially useful in Washington areas with long wet periods, since the material is not meant to replace the support needed over hardpan. Once the base is prepared, it can be spread as a fine layer beneath pavers or worked into the joints of interlocking pavers. The consistent texture helps keep the finishing work manageable.

Common Uses
Mortar & Stucco Mixing
For mortar, grout, and stucco, use mason sand as the fine aggregate. Its small, even particles make a mix that applies cleanly, stays workable, and fills masonry joints and finish surfaces evenly.
Paver Installation
Set pavers on a mason sand bedding layer for final adjustment, and brush the material into interlocking joints. The fine sand fills narrow spaces and helps create a flat base beneath the pavers.
Sandboxes & Play Areas
Mason sand is washed and has a soft feel for children's sandbox and play-area use. Its fine texture is comfortable against bare hands and feet.
Volleyball Courts & Recreation
For volleyball court surfacing, mason sand creates an even, soft layer for barefoot play. The material also provides cushioning when players land.
Why Choose Mason Sand
Ultra-Fine, Smooth Texture
Fine grading and washing create mason sand with a smooth, uniform feel. It is suited to mortar and finish applications that call for a fine aggregate.
Washed & Impurity-Free
Washing mason sand removes clay, silt, and organic debris from the material. This helps keep recreation surfaces clean and supports mortar bonding.
Consistent Grain Size
Mason sand has evenly graded particles for dependable use in mortar, paver bedding, and recreation areas. Similar particle sizing helps keep the material consistent from one application to the next.
Safe for Recreation
Mason sand's clean, soft composition suits sandboxes, play spaces, and athletic courts. It provides a gentle surface for children and visitors.
